Get Your Ps - Pass the VicRoads Driving Test
We practise the commonly used VicRoads test routes and local test areas, so you walk in on test day knowing exactly what to expect.
We Practise the Local VicRoads Test Routes
Auto Check Driver Training specialises in preparing learners to pass the VicRoads drive test first time - including new and nervous drivers with little or no experience. Every lesson is built on communication, achievement and enjoyment, so you build real confidence, not just test-day nerves.
How Many Lessons Does It Take to Learn to Drive?
Preparing for the VicRoads Practical Driving Test
Minimum 5 Hours, Test-Focused
Once you're at or near 120 logbook hours, we recommend a minimum of 5 hours of lessons targeting the test itself - aiming for a confident, first-time pass.
Official Test-Route Training
We meet you at your local VicRoads office and run the full lesson on the official testing routes - learning the routes, format and criteria, practising parking and three-point turns, and covering the tricky intersections and black spots. Each route takes about 60 minutes including correcting mistakes - the best way to get maximum value and the best chance of passing first time.
Get Your Ps - The Procedure
Hazard Perception Test (HPT)
A computer-based test at VicRoads. Book it via the VicRoads website, by calling 13 11 71, or at your local VicRoads office.
Book Your Driving Test
Contact VicRoads for available dates and times - but before you lock anything in, check your instructor's availability with us so we can be there with you on test day.
VicRoads Fees
Learner knowledge test, HPT and driving test fees are paid directly to VicRoads and are separate from our lesson fees.
Logbook & myLearners App
Track your hours in the myLearners app (Google Play / App Store) or a paper logbook - complete the declaration page (not required if you're over 21). Aim to record closer to 130 hours, keep entries neat, never rip out pages (strike through mistakes instead), and make sure your instructor's signatures match throughout. Free download: the Road to Solo Driving handbook.
Advanced Driver Training
Defensive Driving
Hazard awareness and safe-following technique.
Hazard Perception
Sharpen reaction time and road-scanning habits.
Refresher Lessons
Back behind the wheel after time away from driving.
Senior Driver Assessments
Confidence and safety check-ins for experienced drivers.
Overseas Licence Conversion
Moved to Melbourne with an overseas licence? You can generally keep driving on it for up to six months after you become a permanent resident - after that, a Victorian licence is required. If your licence was issued in a country with a recognised exchange agreement (such as the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Japan or South Korea), you can usually swap it over at a VicRoads service centre without sitting a test. If it came from a country without an agreement - including India, China and the Philippines - you'll need a Victorian learner permit, then a full VicRoads drive test.
That's where we come in. You already know how to drive; our job is to bridge the gap between how you learned and what a Victorian testing officer expects. Lessons focus on the local rules that catch experienced overseas drivers out - hook turns in the CBD, giving way at roundabouts, tram stops and shared-lane etiquette, school zone speed limits and consistent lane positioning. Most drivers coming from a left-hand-traffic country need only a handful of lessons; those adjusting from right-hand traffic typically need a few more, depending on how recently and how often they've been driving.
We'll assess where you're at in your first lesson, tell you honestly how many you're likely to need, take you through the local test routes, and have our car available on the day of your assessment.
- Honest lesson-count assessment up front - no padded packages
- Victorian-specific road rules: hook turns, trams, roundabouts, school zones
- Familiarisation with the local VicRoads test routes
- Use of our dual-control vehicle on test day
- Automatic lessons, in your own time (manual currently unavailable)
Licence requirements, fees and eligibility are set by VicRoads and can change - please confirm your own situation at vicroads.vic.gov.au.
Driving Lessons for International Students in Melbourne
Studying in Melbourne and need to drive? We run driving lessons for international students Melbourne wide, around class timetables and part-time work. If you already hold a licence from home, we cover overseas licence conversion Melbourne requirements and what VicRoads will expect of you. If you're starting from scratch, we take you from learner permit through to the VicRoads driving test Melbourne CBD and surrounding testing centres.
Lessons can start and finish at your campus, accommodation or workplace across Melbourne CBD, Carlton, Southbank, Docklands, South Yarra and Prahran. We explain Victorian road rules that catch new arrivals out - hook turns, tram stops, roundabout priority and school zones - and we practise the local test routes before assessment day.
